# MCP Security Scanner
Checks if MCP servers are trying to pwn your machine before you install them.
## The Problem
MCP servers can do anything on your computer. Literally anything. We scanned 500+ of them and... yeah, it's bad:
- Almost half have command injection bugs
- A third will SSRF your internal network
- Tons leak files they shouldn't
- Remember when GitHub's MCP leaked private repos? That.
We built this after getting burned by a malicious MCP server. You probably don't want to learn the hard way.
## What This Does

We catch the obvious stuff - command injection, credential theft, path traversal. Plus the sneaky stuff with ML/LLM analysis. Getting better every day.
## Installation

## Actual Code We've Found
Not making this up. Real MCP servers:

## What Sucks Right Now
Let's be real:
- Catches maybe 75-85% of bad stuff (better with LLM enabled)
- False positives down to ~5% with context-aware filtering
- Python/JS/TS/Go/Rust all work (but Python's the best)
- Obfuscated code still breaks us
- Runtime monitoring exists but it's basic

## Contributing
This problem is bigger than us. If you've got ideas:
**Easiest ways to help:**
- Add detection patterns to `src/analyzers/comprehensive/patterns.py`
- Write test cases in `examples/` (safe malicious code)
- Fix our terrible JavaScript detection
- Tell us when we flag safe code as dangerous

## Code Structure
Pretty simple:

## Common Issues
**"This repo is dangerous!"**
Yeah we have test malware. Use `--profile production` to skip it.
**"Module not found"**
`source .venv/bin/activate`
**"Too many false positives!"**
Use `--profile production` to exclude test/example code. Or `--profile development` if you're testing.
**"Is this accurate?"**
75-85% detection. With LLM enabled, even better. Not perfect but pretty damn good.
**"CI/CD?"**
Returns exit code 1 if it finds bad stuff. Perfect for GitHub Actions.
## What's Actually Working Now
Stuff that already works:
- Context-aware scanning (production vs dev vs security-tool code)
- Multi-language support (Python/JS/TS/Go/Rust)
- ML ensemble scoring for better detection
- Runtime proxy monitoring (basic but functional)
- Taint analysis for data flow tracking
- LLM deep analysis with Cerebras GPT
## Where This Is Going
Dream state:
- Every MCP server gets scanned automatically
- "Security verified" badges
- VSCode extension that warns before you install sketchy stuff
- Community-reported vulnerabilities
- Real-time runtime protection (not just monitoring)
