Each case is a real wire input with an expected verdict. A runner drives it through the product on the transport the case declares, records whether the adapter proved delivery and observed a decision, and writes evidence a reader can re-check offline. Every result is scoped to the exact product, version, configuration, adapter, capability profile, corpus, and scoring version that produced it. **This tests the security tool, not the agent.** AgentDojo, InjecAgent, CyberSecEval, and AgentHarm ask whether the model behaves. This corpus asks whether anything catches the model when it doesn't. Every case in the corpus goes through this." width="100%"> </picture> ## Why this exists An agent that browses the web, calls APIs, and runs MCP tools is holding credentials on one side and an open socket on the other. Prompt injection, a poisoned tool description, or plain misalignment turns that into exfiltration. Tools already sit in that path. What a buyer usually gets is each vendor's own examples, graded by the vendor, with nothing shared to hold two claims against. Most are one JSON file carrying the payload, the expected verdict, a severity, capability tags, and a machine-readable reason for the outcome. MCP drift cases under `cases/mcp-drift/` are multi-file before and after snapshots with `case.yaml` metadata, and each drift directory counts as one case. [`cases/STATS.md`](cases/STATS.md) is generated from the loader and is the only place counts live. The benign control group matters as much as the attacks. A tool that blocks everything scores perfectly on containment and is useless in production, so [`cases/false-positive/`](cases/false-positive/) is scored on its own axis and never folded into the containment number. Process and kernel boundaries use the separate [endpoint containment scenarios](docs/ENDPOINT-CONTAINMENT.md). Those scenarios test detached descendants and direct network attempts through a product's installed containment command. Their results don't enter the Gauntlet wire score. A wrong verdict gets a new case and a governance record, never a quiet fix. The publisher owns the result." width="100%"> </picture> Two hand-offs in that pipeline are deliberately out of a vendor's reach. **Delivery evidence stays explicit.** The reference runner stands up HTTP, TLS, WebSocket, DNS, and MCP fixtures and sends each case through the adapter. A declared route only authorizes an attempt. A route without delivery proof or an observable verdict remains a non-measurement. **The validator runs offline.** `aeb-validate` reconciles every result row against the case it cites, the summary against the rows, and the manifest against the file digests, with no network and no call home. A reader who downloads a bundle can re-check those bindings offline. Declaring a capability away doesn't remove a case from the denominator. [`docs/gauntlet.md`](docs/gauntlet.md) owns the definitions; [`contracts/result-states-v6.json`](contracts/result-states-v6.json) is the exhaustive machine-readable table and CI checks the Go scorer and validator against it. ## Evidence and assurance A score on its own is a claim. A run carries none by default, and none of them is a mark of approval." width="100%"> </picture> - [`docs/RESULTS-USE.md`](docs/RESULTS-USE.md) defines the labels, the facts that must be published beside any score, the non-claims, and the correction path. It also grants, in writing, permission to publish a result that reflects badly on Pipelock without notice or approval. - [`docs/CONTROL-EVIDENCE-V1.md`](docs/CONTROL-EVIDENCE-V1.md) is the registry-bound evidence bundle: DSSE-signed manifest, outcomes, observer evidence, clock evidence, and a verifier with conformance vectors. - [`docs/ARTIFACT-PROVENANCE.md`](docs/ARTIFACT-PROVENANCE.md) adds opt-in external assessments: `schema-valid`, `authenticated-at(T)`, and `buyer-reproduced`, each with its own non-claim. - [`docs/RECEIPT-SCORING.md`](docs/RECEIPT-SCORING.md) is a separate axis for products that emit independently verifiable per-action receipts. - [`result-pointers/`](result-pointers/) is the admission-gated registry of pointers at third-party results. It stores pointers, never result bytes; admission means the manifest validated and the bytes matched the declared digest, nothing more. The maintainer publishes Pipelock's own history at [pipelab.org/gauntlet/results](https://pipelab.org/gauntlet/results/), labeled as first-party evidence. This repository keeps the older records under [`gauntlet-site/results/`](gauntlet-site/results/) as a read-only restore copy. Nothing there is a live score or a comparison. ## Run it against your own tool Every tool brings its own runner or adapter. The Go program in [`runner/`](runner/) is the reference implementation: it stands up the fixtures, drives each declared transport through the selected adapter, and writes per-case JSONL to stdout plus a Gauntlet summary to `--output`. It ships with a `proxy` adapter for fetch-style and CONNECT forward proxies, WebSocket, MCP stdio, MCP HTTP, and A2A, and a narrow plugin-configured `gateway` adapter for Streamable HTTP MCP gateways. 1. Start from the [runner template](examples/runner-template/) or read the complete [Pipelock reference runner](examples/pipelock/). [`docs/RUNNER.md`](docs/RUNNER.md) is the contract. 2. Declare what your product can see in a capability profile. Labels come from the [immutable capability registry](docs/CAPABILITY-VOCABULARY.md); they describe a result and can't select cases out of it. 3. For an MCP gateway, fill in the [gateway plugin template](examples/gateway-plugin-template.json) and read [`docs/GATEWAY-ADAPTER.md`](docs/GATEWAY-ADAPTER.md) for what that path does and doesn't yet cover. 4. Publish the result under your own name and hosting, with the facts and label from [`docs/RESULTS-USE.md`](docs/RESULTS-USE.md). [`docs/ADOPTION.md`](docs/ADOPTION.md) walks the whole path. If you're writing a second runner from the public docs alone, [`docs/RUNNER-PARITY.md`](docs/RUNNER-PARITY.md) is the commit-then-reveal protocol for proving two implementations agree without either copying the other. Machine readers start at the [schema discovery feed](schemas/discovery.json) and the [schema catalog](schemas/index.json) with SHA-256 digests. Adapter quickstarts for a [fetch-style proxy](docs/SCHEMAS.md#fetch-style-forward-proxy), a [CONNECT proxy](docs/SCHEMAS.md#connect-capable-forward-proxy), an [MCP Streamable HTTP listener](docs/SCHEMAS.md#mcp-streamable-http-listener), and an [MCP gateway](docs/SCHEMAS.md#mcp-gateway) live in [`docs/SCHEMAS.md`](docs/SCHEMAS.md). ## What this doesn't test - **Model alignment.** Whether the LLM refuses harmful instructions. Use AgentDojo, AgentHarm, or ASB. - **Application-layer guardrails.** Whether a guardrail API flags a prompt as malicious. Use AgentShield-benchmark. - **Code generation safety.** Whether the model writes insecure code. Use CyberSecEval. - **Authentication and authorization.** Whether the agent holds valid credentials for the APIs it calls. - **Inbound traffic.** What enters the agent's environment. These cases follow outbound traffic. - **Covert channels.** Timing, header ordering, HTTP/2 framing, and steganography are out of scope by design. A detector that labels content isn't containment, and a product whose architecture sits outside a proxy or gateway isn't made to look defective because no faithful adapter exists yet. Unsupported surfaces stay explicit and stay outside the denominator. That sentence is the conflict-of-interest disclosure, and the rest of this section is what's done about it. - **Open, not yet independent.** The corpus, contracts, scoring, and verification are public and tool-agnostic. Comparative authority isn't claimed until people outside PipeLab hold decision rights over case semantics and scoring. Until then, this is a maintained open instrument, and the docs say so rather than calling it neutral. - **No ranking here.** This repository publishes no ranking, leaderboard, or cross-tool comparison table, and the maintainer awards no mark, badge, or pass label to anyone's result, including its own. <!-- claim-ok: states the non-claim --> - **Every publisher owns its evidence.** A listed pointer means the manifest validated and the bytes matched; it isn't approval of a product or a score. - **Adverse results need no permission.** Anyone may publish a result that reflects badly on Pipelock, or on any other target, without notice, embargo, or prior review. - **No retroactive scoring.** A scoring change gets a version; a published number is never moved. - **Cases are written to the wire, not to a product.** They test observable behavior (did the request get blocked?), never implementation internals. Pipelock's own scheduled runs live in [`luckyPipewrench/pipelock`](https://github.com/luckyPipewrench/pipelock); the corpus, runner, and portable command live here, and [`docs/CONTINUOUS-RESULTS.md`](docs/CONTINUOUS-RESULTS.md) is the review and publication contract between them. ## Releases and artifacts A tagged release fixes the corpus, schemas, contracts, runner source, and runner archives in one package: a data bundle, a commit-pinned schema catalog and bundle, archives for Linux, macOS, and Windows on amd64 and arm64 carrying both `aeb-gauntlet` and `aeb-validate`, `checksums.txt`, `release-identity.json`, the digest-pinned `runner-image.ref`, and GitHub Artifact Attestations for every asset. [`docs/RELEASES.md`](docs/RELEASES.md) has the verification walkthrough, and [`contracts/artifacts.json`](contracts/artifacts.json) is the machine-readable compatibility inventory. The bench binaries are multi-OS. The Pipelock reference lane is Linux-only, and a macOS archive lets you inspect the corpus and validate saved artifacts, not run that lane.
